This is one of my staple kitchen tricks - mostly because I'm lazy but also because it tastes good.

Basically, the idea is: whenever you have some garlic lying around, peel the whole lot of it and preserve the left-over pieces in a bottle with some vodka. Keep topping the vodka up and it'll last for a very long time and you'll wind up with wonderful whatever-flavored vodka and alcohol-"cooked" flavorings.
