<p>The handle is shaped with two angled surfaces at the backbone, and large flat bevels that meet at a small flat surface. It&#8217;s weird-looking but it fits the hand very well.</p>

<p>1095 wire rope &#8220;plow cable&#8221; damascus, differentially tempered. Handle is redwood burl and vintage redwood.</p>
<p>I made this for Dan G.; I was aiming for a &#8220;down home kitchen knife&#8221; for a fellow who&#8217;s mostly a farmer. I was quite happy with how it came out until I noticed it was slightly bent. Since it&#8217;s differentially tempered I knew there was a good chance that I could tap it back into line with a little rap on the anvil. Instead, I made a crack in the martensite edge near the tip. I&#8217;ll try again later.</p>

<p>Flaws: in the course of pressing out the billet, I got a piece of scale embedded in the face of the blade, near the guard. That is not a maker&#8217;s mark, it&#8217;s a great big cinder. Once I realized there was going to be a hole, I left it.</p>
