I was casting some pewter in an open mold, and charged up a crucible with silver and pewter. The crucible cracked in the forge and spilled about 6 troy ounces of metal onto the fire-bricks. Since I did not want to shut down the forge I attempted to weld a billet I was working on, and the billet sucked the metal right up into it like it was a giant batch of solder.
I do not recommend you do this. When I pressed it the silver squirted out all over the place (none of it hit me) but worse, the weld appeared to take but blew apart as soon as I hit it horizontally.
Now I have to replace the firebricks and try to dig the molten silver out of the lining.
